VITA TUŠEK: Nočeš videt? Poglej.

O umetnici

VITA TUŠEK: Don't want to see? Look

About the artist

Vita Tušek (1998) started her studies in visual communication (graphic design) and continued her studies in photography at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana (ALUO). She uses various cameras - analogue, polaroid (instant) and digital. She is also close to different printing techniques and often uses zines as a medium of expression, which she prints at home on her home printer. She likes to be in control of the whole process - from the content to the final product.

This time she is presenting herself with the exhibition named Don't want to see? Look; which includes three series/projects – I Don't See, Look, Args and Dead Birds - that evoke a strong discomfort in the viewer. In I Don't See, Look, she starts from her visual impairment and wants to highlight the framing caused by glasses - i.e. the blurred field of vision and clarity. She wanted to apply this idea to archive photographs, where she came across spontaneous photographs of feet again and again. She herself has no strong feelings (positive or negative) towards feet, but is aware that many people feel uncomfortable with them. Later on, the hybrids between hands and feet - Args - were created as the artist's response to the misunderstanding of the discomfort towards feet because she equates them with hands. Over the years she has also collected some photographs of dead birds - like feet, they also represent discomfort for some people, have you heard of ornithophobia?

You are also welcome to watch the conversation. Vita and I talked about her work, and we also discussed the art scene in Maribor.

On behalf of the Media Nox team, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to Vita and wish her best of luck in her future career
