MAJA VRABER TRABE: MISTIČNI SVET POD GLADINO

O umetnici

Maja Vraber Trabe, rojena 7. 7. 2000, prihaja iz okolice Maribora.

Dela delujejo fluidno in so izredno dinamična.  Majin slog odlikujejo natančne linije, ploskovit nanos barve; kompozicijo pa nadgradi z dinamičnimi in fluidnimi ozadji, s katerimi pride osrednji motiv še posebej do izraza. S premišljenimi in načrtnimi prazninami svojim delom doda globino in dimenzijo.

MAJA VRABER TRABE: MYSTICAL WORLD UNDER THE SURFACE

About the artist

Maja Vraber Trabe, born on 7 July 2000, comes from the surroundings of Maribor. After primary school she attended the Maribor Secondary School of Design, majoring in graphic design, graduating in 2019.

During her education, she was also successful in several projects, the first dating back to her primary school days, when she participated twice in the art colony at Fala Castle and in the art colony at the Drava Centre. In 2018, in cooperation with the Association for European Awareness, she designed a poster on gender equality in the project Through Her Eyes, which graced the streets of Maribor in February (International Women's Day). In 2018-2019, she also exhibited at the Festival of Maribor Design (FOMB), in 2018 in the Poster and Comic categories, and in 2019 she designed four T-shirts with the urgent topic of environmental pollution and its consequences.

In 2019-2021, she also gained experience in the Maribor Students' Club (KMŠ), working as an illustrator and graphic designer. She is currently studying art pedagogy at the Faculty of Education, University of Maribor.

Maja Vraber Trabe presents her series of ten works Mystical World Under the Surface, painted in gouache, at WebNox. The central motif is mermaids, which the artist depicts in a simplistic style, and it also stands out that mermaids, who are otherwise extremely sexualised in pop culture, are here depicted in a gender-neutral way, in which the artist criticises both the sexualisation of women's bodies and the ideals of beauty that often stigmatise girls and women. Despite the simplism and the absence of a face, Maja's composition and body positioning perfectly portray emotions - the mermaids are so melancholic, playful ...

The works are fluid and extremely dynamic.  Maja's style is characterised by precise lines, flat application of colour; the composition is enhanced by dynamic and fluid backgrounds, which make the central motif particularly prominent. With thoughtful and deliberate voids, she adds depth and dimension to her works.
